Minnesota LECET Helps with Passage of Minnesota Transportation Amendment Resulting in Transportation Projects and Jobs

With the help of the Laborers organization and signatory Contractors throughout the entire state, Minnesota LECET was able to use a variety of resources to greatly impact the passage of the “MVST”  Amendment  in the November,  2006  elections.      The passage means additional revenue of  approximately  $300 Million per year  for  road construction and  transportation projects,  to be  phased  in  over the  next five  years, resulting in nearly  14,000  new construction  jobs  annually.    The  amendment  was written to redirect how current sales taxes on the  purchases  of  new and  used motor vehicles  were  previously  being  spent,  and  shifting those  funds  to  much  needed infrastructure projects.

The LECET campaign included development and implementation of customized full page  advertisements  placed  strategically  in a  timely  fashion  within  major news publications throughout the state.   Additionally, volunteers were organized to wave “Vote Yes” signs and pass out information at Minnesota Vikings football games, and at strategic areas during the days leading to the election.
