Contractors, skilled Union construction Laborers, and others gathered at the Transportation Rally held on April 12, 2007 at the Minnesota State Capitol front lawn in support of the future of transportation in Minnesota. They heard a very clear message from transportation advocates, stating that new money for road and transit projects would create jobs, reduce traffic deaths and make Minnesota more competitive. Advocates addressed the importance of acting now, to address the $1.5 billion per year transportation funding gap shortfall.
The rally was organized by the Minnesota Transportation Alliance--an organization comprised of the Laborers and Operating Engineers unions, construction contractors and many others who are concerned about the transportation system in Minnesota.
Todd Pufahl the Laborers Legislative Director stated, “Thanks to everyone who participated in making this event successful. Much of the success of the rally’s turnout is to be credited to our signatory contractors and local unions who worked hard and dedicated resources to turn out their employees and our members for this important event. It is evident, by the numbers of people gathered, that we are at a very critical stage.”
