Smallman Wins Award at

    MC&MCA Annual Banquet

Katie Smallman knows the value of skilled craftsmanship and safety on

construction job sites.  The Minnesota Concrete and Masonry Contractors

Association (MC&MCA) recognized this and rewarded her for it.

Smallman, a journey worker from Laborers Local 563, won the annual

$500 scholarship award and plans on using it to continue improving

her capabilities in the construction industry. “I am currently looking

at courses for being a general superintendent.” said Smallman, while

at the MC&MCA event, held in March.

In addition, her training at the Laborers Training Center has been

second to none.  “The Training center offers great opportunities and

they have a great concrete training program.” commented

Smallman, who has logged over 328 training hours. “From torch

cutting, to demo to OSHA classes, I have been through it all.”

Her training and skill level have allowed her to work steady for

nearly 52 weeks out of the year.  “BorSon Construction is a great

contractor and they have kept me real busy.” she said.

“Working for the union and a quality contractor like BorSon is

a career and I am learning a lot of new things each and every day!”
