NUMBER OF UNION LABORERS: Approx 80 Union Skilled Construction Craft Laborers as part of over 350 Union Crafts people total.
DETAILS: $240 million design build project in the Southwest Metro. Project involves construction of over 11.5 miles of new two lane freeway and associated city and county road crossings and frontage roads. Major items of work include: 29 bridges, 10 million cubic yards of earthwork, approx 200,000 square feet of noise walls, retaining walls, over 200,000 linear feet of underground storm sewer, watermain, and sanitary sewer piping, concrete and bituminous pavement, and signals and intelligent transportation system. Zumbro River Constructors, LLC. is a joint venture comprising of Ames Construction, Edward Kraemer and Sons, and Fluor Corporation. The project starts in Eden Prairie, MN and finishes in Carver, MN.
MOTTO: The adapted motto is “Do it right the first time”. This entails constant planning, and hiring qualified, dedicated crafts people.
OVERCOMING OBSTACLES: The Project is adjacent to several environmentally sensitive areas. It has been a challenge to maintain these areas and build a project. Geotechnical issues have also been an obstacle; the existing soils are primarily wet clays and highly organic soils.
